He pissed someone off. Just that simple.
He has been stepping on many toes while cleaning up BWBBTB.
Then again "There is no scorn like a woman scorned" He did just propose to a girl on TV and in a ball park.
He is innocent until peoven guilty.

Prove It.
4/23/2007 4:24:46 PM
I say prove it, lady. Chief Smith is a stand-up guy and I think it''s too easy for women to accuse men of rape.
I bet it''s just another loonie ex-girlfriend who is jealous that Chief Smith has built himself up in his career and his personal life, being engaged and all.
Congrats to Chief Smith on his engagement, and hopefully the truth will stand out.

I like Chief Smith, but...
4/23/2007 5:18:32 PM
....lookin'' ugly on the television.
Long drawn out rape trial etc.
Even if he didn''t have relations against the ex''s will, if she can prove he was with her Saturday, he''s ""done"".
Damn. The street cops like him too.

EVW needs to stop claiming he is ""breaking"" stories that he isn''t ""breaking"". It sounds retarded.
Example: He claimed he ""broke"" this stupid rape case, then went on to say that he wasn''t ""sensationalizing"" the story by repeating it after some TV channel had already broken the story.
EVW- At least say you are breaking it ON RADIO... but this lame attempt at trying to characterize yourself as a serious journalist by making claims that you are breaking stories that you aren''t is annoying. There is nothing wrong with you covering a story that others broke. For many of us, it is the first we are hearing of it, anyway. There is no reason that you need to pretend to be Geraldo.

Hey Jerk off, I''ve never claimed I ""Broke the Chief Smith Story."" Not even close. You and the other mental midgets need to find some other games to play. I''m not playing with you. This is not a site for socially retarded to take infantile pot-shots at me. You have lied and you will not be welcome back until you contact me personally and then I''ll see what I think. That goes for the rest of you as well. I don''t give a damn about what you do elsewhere. This is my house and I''ll shut the whole thing down if you can''t grow up. I''m seriously considering a requirement that everyone post under their actuall first and last name verified by drivers lic. If these cowards had to post under their own names and be held accountable for the crap they make up, it wouldn''t happen. I''m in no mood so let''s not have any smart-ass remarks.

If we had some moderators we could have stopped that nonsense cold rather than let it fester.
The vast majority of the Threadster response was not at all accommodating to the charges.

Bryan Smith is represented by J A Canales, He will be fine. The girl is another story. IMO Carlos Valdez is out of line in going on camera and sensationalizing a pot shot at the chief.
He did not rape her.
Public Proposals have a way of making exes jealous.

This is quite a startling story. I''ll wait to see what evidence emerges. I am more inclined to believe a rape accusation made immediately after the alleged event as compare to one which is made weeks, months, or sometimes years later.

From what I understand he has been dating his current wife to be about 5 months. I just find it hard to believe that he would have one last round with the ex. If so, he''s not smart enough to be y''alls chief. It sounds more a a woman scorned and payback for finding someone new.

Oh yeah-
I wonder how long until Nancy Grace picks up this story? She seems to just love talking about rape. I am waiting for her to start a spinoff T.V. show called Rape Chat... I am sure it won''t be long now!

Nancy Grace is an idiot with a talkshow/newshow. She looks like a poodle and has an obsession with talking about rape. She''s a total moron.

First of all, I am steering clear of ""Timothy"". I do find it interesting that, in a very short period of time, many of those here on the board are proving her point by responding to her other than to refute her initial post.
Secondly, and it should have been foremost, the whole point is the mess in which Chief Smith finds himself. The old saying that ""the badge gets women and women get the badge"" is very applicable to this predicament. This is not the first time nor, I am certain, will it be the last.
In this case, and I am assuming that he did have sexual relations in at least a Lewinskiesque manner with the accuser, his guilt or innocence will be doubted even after a jury (if it goes that far and I truly doubt it will) will forever be questioned. His career, as he knew it until this week, is undoubtedly over, regardless of the outcome. Any aspirations he had beyond Chief of a minor city are done. Sure, he might weather this current storm, but no other city commission will want to take on his baggage, even if he is completely exonerated of any and all charges. He will forever be branded as ""that guy who couldn''t keep his pants on"".
His lone ace in the hole (forgive the unintended pun) is that he is well liked by the rank and file of CCPD. That just might be his saving grace in as far as keeping his present position. Even so, his ability to lead has been greatly eroded by this debacle, again regardless of the outcome of the Texas Ranger investigation. As to that, my guess is that no assault will be proven, as it will likely be a he said/she said situation that will prove nothing whatsoever. Further, a polygraph will not help because the victim in a sexual assault cannot be compelled for such. I doubt, unless she is telling the truth, that she would be quick to be strapped to ""The Box"". he could take one, but his naysayers would only offer that, as a person well-versed in both law enforcement and computers, he had ""beaten the box"".
In other words, this will not end well, no matter what.

Being he was single I will say that he most likely had sex with this woman. I will now say that if he played around with this woman after the ""Proposal in the Park"" in front of thousands he more than deserves what he gets for punishment. Should he be that stupid as to fooling around ,IMHO he does not merit being our police chief or having the trust of his fiance. Cant spell.

I suppose I tend to be more pragmatic about things, Cal. On the one hand, I do have to think, what a dumbass! On the other hand, I tend to think that CCPD will likely lose a very good Chief of Police. Thay are very few and far between.
There are loads of executives who stray from time to time, but make great bosses and managers. On the other hand, there are some people who are very sound morally who can''t run an organization worth a damn. Jimmy Carter is a great husband and father but was a lousy President. FDR was recognized as a great president, but had a mistress during his entire time in the White House. If given a choice between the two to lead you in a wartime situation, for whom would you cast your vote?
The point is moot, anyway. The mere accusation, regardless of whether he even had sex with this owman since his engagement, will cost him dearly. People will only remember the accusation, not the validity of it.

I don''t think anyone here is being assigned to investigate the claims against Chief Smith. I will wait for those who will do the investigating to tell me if there was any wrong doing.

My point is that wrongdoing or the complete and utter lack thereof matter little. Many will have made up their own minds prior to the beginning of the investigation. His career is ultimately stunted even if he did not touch the woman.

I can not in all fairness come to a final answer to this matter as I do not have all the ""FACTS"". When they are known and a decision is rendered, then I and perhaps many others will have to live with the after actions.
I can live with and forget as time goes by in BWBBTB. I can forgive, but I can''t forget.

I believe he had sex with the woman in question and that she wanted to marry him.
His attorney said at the press conference that the sex was consensual. If it happened.
She would have to be crazy to not have at least had sex with him and go to the hospital.
I bet he had sex and she was pissed because she was good enough to sleep with not good enough to marry.
Some people are saying that his fiance was making him wait till the wedding night and till she got her wedding ring.
